Statement from NENT to NOFIMA AS

Statement from The National Committee for Research Ethics in Science and Technology (NENT) in regard to a request for ethical approval by NOFIMA AS.

To
NOFIMA MAT As

We refer to your request of 29 January 2009, and follow-up mails of 30 January 2009 and 09 March 2009. In your communications on behalf of NOFIMA as you asked for ethical approval of sensory testing in relation to five groups of salmon filets, fed with different feed, among others genetically modified yeast. A form for informed consent for the panellists was attached, first in English and then in Norwegian.

The request was discussed by the Committee in its meeting 2 March 2009. As a result a
letter with some critical comments and a suggestion for the improvement of the informed
consent form was sent to NOFIMA 9 March. NENT received then immediately a revised
version of the informed consent form the same day.

Ueland’s mail of 9 March also indicates that NOFIMA as will contact the Norwegian Mattilsynet (Food inspectorate) in case the testing with these filets needs approval of this body as well.

As a result of this process, NENT has no further objections or other comments in connection with the planned study and the informed consent form. Approval is granted.

Yours sincerely,
Dr. Matthias Kaiser
Director of NENT
